After talking about going down to Santa Cruz all year long and not actually doing it, I decided it was the right time to go.
Little known fact; I was accepted into UCSC back in high school but opted for SFSU because I wouldn't be able to handle the thought of having to pay so much for similar education.
So I thought it would be a really enlightening to go and see how life is like down there and maybe try to see myself in that position.
It was a one hour drive down Highway 1 and there were no bathroom breaks until the end.
While in SC, I got to visit a lot of old high school friends that I saw a week or 2 ago as well as their apartments.
In general, it is everything I expected but at the same time, I can sort of get the vibe of how college life is at the third year. I give them all props because there's so much to take care of down there on a regular basis. Grocery shopping (weekly or bi-weekly), rent, and even going out can get a bit repetitive for them.
All in all, weighing in how life is like over here to life over there, its the opposite when it comes to the good and the bad. The in-dependency is good but it comes with a hefty price while over here, dependency on parents is good on a budget (free dinner haha).
I'm sure there's more to it that I will never understand but in retrospect, its all about what to anticipate when making a crucial decision.
Meh, I really didn't want to be too preachy in this blog but I spent the better part of the day reading "Readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy" so that type of writing is stuck on me.
I'm hoping that next time I come down there, I'd be a bit more prepared on what I want to do. If anyone from that day reads this blog, thanks for showing me around =), it was a valuable experience and I wish I could have experienced it with all of you from the start.
